6 Week Pediatrician Visit

Baby Jake as we like to call him in this house had his 6 week appointment today with his brother. They both got shots today, Max didn't cry but poor little Jake did. The doctor kept saying how big Jake is. He is in the 75th percentile for both height and weight. Max never got there for weight he always maxed out at the 50th percentile for weight but was the same as Jake in height. Jake weighs 12.9 pounds and is 23 inches long. He is a very very big boy. Poor guy has gotten a bit of a cold from Max who just had Croup. He has a stuffy nose and is still very mucusy but is still eating well and has no fever so we aren't concerned. Our next appointment is his 8 month check up right before we head to California so he can get his shots.

18 Month Pediatrician visit

Max and Jake both had their appointments at the same time today. Max weighs 24 pounds and is 34 inches which puts him in the 24th percentile for weight and 50th for height. He dropped in both categories which is normal. I guess we have a tiny one on our hands unlike his brother who is huge. Max got his shot without crying which made daddy very proud. He then got sticker for it which he loved since it was Thomas the Train which he LOVES. The doctor did find a heart murmur which we now need to see a cardiologist for. Steve mentioned that he had one too when he was little so we are hoping it is the same thing and it will resolve itself on its own. I'll feel much better once we get it checked out. The doctor was a bit concerned about his speech but said she will give it two more months and wants to see 5 to 10 words by then. If not we need to see someone about that as well. We are going to start by giving in less to his demands by pointing and see if he will try to speak.

My boy is 1.5 years old!

Wowser! How he has grown! It is so much fun to be around him and I am sooo lucky to be able to spend time with him and Jake while I'm on maternity leave. Sadly our wonderful nanny Maria has had to leave us. She is heading back to Brazil after her mother suddenly died and she has had some health issues. We were really sad to let her go and have been interviewing people to take her place.
Max has been so great to his brother and it is sooo cute to see him love his brother so much. He holds his hand and rocks him in his bed and loves to hold him when we place him in his arms. I can't wait for Jake to be old enough to appreciate his older brother as well.

Max is still not talking but he recognizes words and can point them out in books or puzzles. For example he points out bananas, lady bugs, cats, dogs, ships, planes, cars, trains, helicopters, fire trucks and flowers. I have been practicing a lot with him since I've been home and I can see a huge difference. He knows his belly button and can kick his leg when I ask him to. He can point out his ears and raise his arms and clap and wave or blow a kiss.

He loves to throw balls to the dogs and be outside. He could be outside all day long if he could. He still loves the pool like he did last summer and luckily the weather has been gorgeous lately.

We love to call him the mayor of munchkin land since he is always outside on his bike and all the construction workers here know him. He is a total mommys boy and always wants to be held. He still hits his head against the wall or tables when he becomes frustrated.

Because he is not speaking he has mastered the art of pointing and grunting. It seems to work for him since we give him everything he wants when he points. He still eats very healthy and loves broccoli, pasta, chicken and hot dogs without the skin. Fruits especially blackberries, strawberries and bananas are his favorite. And when he eats a very good dinner he gets a few little bites of kinder chocolate which he loves.

His favorite tv shows are Thomas the Train and Bob the builder which we put him for him during the week. I have tried to limit the tv time and instead do some reading with him so he can learn how to speak.

Max is so friendly with everyone, to the point where when we are in mommy and me class he just hugs other moms and stays in their arms. Or when strangers come in to the house he reaches out to them. It is amazing how friendly he is and really cute.

He still loves bubbles and his toy cars which he plays with everyday. He loves to push around stuff and is always throwing balls. He is just too cute for words and we are head over heels. He is weighing in at 24 pounds and is wearing a size 5 diaper. He poops once a day but we still put prune juice in his milk. He hates getting his poopy diaper changed and will cry and pout until we force him to do it.

His nap routine is great and never a problem and on most nights he sleeps great. Next week he and Jake have their doctor appointments so I will post more then. Until then I'll be enjoying every moment I have with my boys.

Jake 1 Month

My little baby is one month old today. He has grown so much in the past few weeks and last time he was weighed (a few days ago) he was 10.4 pounds. His face has gotten much rounder and he loves to eat. He eats at least 4 ounces per feeding. I stopped pumping a few days ago and my breasts are still engorged. He has been suffering from bad gas just like his brother did. We have been giving him Mylicon with every feeding, but most mornings around 4am his belly hurts him too much. We have switched to similac gas formulas however a friend made me aware of how much sugar is in that brand and so we will be switching back to emfamil once he is done with the box.

He has been sleeping most of the day and gets up around 3-4am due to bad gas pains and doesn't go back to sleep real soon. Thankfully Steve and i have a good system going that works for us. I do the night shift and he gets up after 4am with him and takes him down to the office while I get some sleep. During the day I spend a lot of time with Max while Jake sleeps with Steve in the office while he works. He has been eating between 35-40 ounces a day and gaining a lot in a short period of time. Today he weighed in at 12.4 pounds and is already wearing 3 months clothes. He is much darker toned than Max but also has brown hair. I know we thought he has black hair at first but it turns out my brown haired genes have won again haha Jake has started to smile when you talk to him and is very alert. I can't believe how much difference a month makes. It is making me look forward to what is to come.
