Our son never wants to sleep!

This week has been fairly easy with the exception that Max never wants to sleep during the day. He fights going to sleep and then gets fussy because he is exhausted. Last night we were at my parents house for dinner and we put him down at 7 but he didn't want to sleep so lucky him, we took him out into the dining room with us. He was so cute and got tons of kisses from Grandma which he was loving every minute of. We finally put him down around 8:30 and he slept until 2:30am! He skipped his 10pm feeding and slept for six hours! He has never really done that before and it was amazing. Granted I had to still get up in the middle of the night for a feeding, but in all fairness he did skip his 10pm feeding. Usually I would have woken him up for it, but he was soooo tired from not having slept all day that I wanted him to sleep. His eyes are turning from blue to green/gray. They are starting to look like Steve's mom's eye color. I'll be curious to see what they turn out to be. More and more people are now saying he is looking like Steve these days but with my hair color. After we get back from Miami we are going to have his head shaved. That way all his hair will grow in at once.
This week we worked on our picture wall...it's the wall in the middle of Max's room and our current guest room (it will be child number 2's room). It has a ton of black and white pictures of our past. We will be adding more to it over the years but it looks great thus far.

Since sex after a baby always seems to be a topic of discussion and many of you have asked me if we have tried it since giving birth, here is the answer: Yes, today we finally tried it with tons of lube of course and besides the initial pain where i could feel where my stitches were it was great. We are finally back in action! Today I had a facial, it was much needed. I got microdermabrasion done for the first time and now my face feels soooo soft. I had so many blackheads etc. that she had to extract, and now I look like I'm going through my teenage years again lol Hopefully it will clear up tomorrow. Speaking of tomorrow, we are going to take Max into Manhattan for the first time so Steve can get his birth certificate fixed. They spelled his first and last name incorrectly at birth...go figure. I'm curious to see how Max will behave in public...tomorrow he is 2 months old! I can't believe my son is already eight weeks old and my maternity leave is almost over...so sad. I'm going to enjoy every minute I have left at home. Now off to go fold some his clothes xoxo

McFatty Thursdays

Let me begin by saying I don't know why I post these pictures haha They depress the hell out of me and make me want to go eat a cookie! Steve took these pictures when I rolled out of bed so don't mind the scary face lol This week has been touch and go. I managed to work out 4 times this week, however I need to do more. I also need to remind myself that i haven't worked out in over a year and therefore need to take things slow or I'll injure myself. Steve and i went to the mall on Monday to get Max some cute outfits for Miami and while I was there I tried on some things for myself since I don't fit in any of my pants yet. Part of me wishes I had never stepped into that changing room, the other part is glad I did. Let me clarify...changing room mirrors are never flattering, yet what I saw was even more shocking than I had expected. Not a single outfit I picked out fit...not one despite getting them bigger. Secondly the only thought that kept going through my mind was "OMGGG what will I do in Miami where I can't cover all this up!" I almost ran out of there and was quite upset. Eventually I got over my disgust and ventured into the Gap to get some jeans three sizes bigger then my normal size....3!!! Usually I'm a size 2...the jeans I bought were an 8. Not that there is anything wrong with an 8, but I'm a size 2 so that's a big difference for me. I know, I know...I was pregnant, carried my little man for nine months and need to be less judgemental of myself. I have heard it all, yet it doesn't make it any easier. I hate not feeling sexy or not fitting into anything. I guess part of me thought I'd bounce back faster than I have, but now I know it will be an uphill battle. It's amazing how my body has changed, especially around my hips. I know I carry all my weight in my thighs, hips and butt. I tried to wear a belt with the new jeans I bought, I couldn't even get it around my hips! That was another low point for me and kind of surprised me. I guess I didn't realize how much my body really has changed. People have told me it takes nine months to pop out a baby, and nine months to lose it all. I am starting to wonder if that is true. Either way, I'm going to work real hard to get my confidence back and to lose it before baby number two. Yes I said it...baby number 2 haha We have been trying to eat healthier...here is a picture of tonight's dinner (Disclaimer: it was cooked by my amazing mother in law):

Steve and I have decided to do the lemon/maple syrup cleanse starting Monday. My parents just did it and lost a lot of weight on it. I'm hoping that will jump start things and after that I'll do the south beach diet. Wish me luck!

I know it's a fluke but...

My son finally made it through the night...well almost. He slept from 6pm to 4am with only getting up once at 10pm. I thought he was waking up at 1am and woke him up for his usual feeding, but he wouldn't wake up so i put him right back to bed and I didn't hear from him until 4am...i love it! Lets hope this will slowly starts being the norm.

My son has found his thumb...

It is the cutest thing when he sticks his entire hand into his mouth and then realizes it's easiest to just suck on his thumb. It's hard to decipher if he is self soothing or extremely hungry because when he wants food he starts sucking on his hands like crazy. Max has been going through a crazy growth spurt and has been consuming food as if he were never going to get another bottle again. He went from eating approximately 18 ounces a day to eating more than 30. His schedule has been thrown off and we have been having to feed him almost every two hours. I think it's slowing down now, he will be 7 weeks tomorrow. He is coo-ing and making all sorts of funny noises. He also smiles and is sooo alert. He loves watching television to the point where grandma had to turn his bouncer around haha He can now follow you with his eyes and smiles so much more now. He even rolled over on his own the other day when I showed him how. It had to be while he was on a pillow, but he did it on his own and seemed to love it. The only thing he still doesn't enjoy is the bjorn, which I really wish he would. It would allow me to get more stuff done around the house and traveling a bit easier.
Sadly I got a letter in the mail from my office stating that my maternity leave is over February 22nd so that was a bummer since I thought I was going back March 1st. Holding that letter made me sad since I can't imagine not spending all day with Max. I'm going to miss him so much but I have no choice. Providing for my family is also a very important job and so at the moment that falls on me. I'm just going to have Steve tape him during the day and send me videos :)
In two weeks we are heading to Miami which we are super excited about. We have been going over what to bring since we know traveling will be difficult with a child. There is sooo much luggage, I'm just hoping he doesn't make a scene on the plane haha I always hated having to sit next to a crying baby, so maybe it's payback time now :(
Lastly, breastfeeding is slowly coming to an end. I haven't had him on the breast in two weeks now, instead I have been pumping around the clock. I chose to do it this way so I could see how much I was feeding him. It has helped with his crying spells since he was never getting enough before. However it has also decreased my supply a little, not too much though. We have been introducing more and more formula which he has been taking. We give him the Enfamil ready to use formula which is expensive but he likes it. We are going to start testing to see if he will take it in the powder form which is water based. I want to pump for as long as I can but will stop when I go back to work. It's been a difficult decision, but one I'm okay with.
On that note I'm going to get some rest xoxo

The time has come...

For me to start getting serious about losing my baby weight. It's been difficult with the lack of sleep and always wearing baggy clothes, but now that I have exactly one more month of maternity leave it's time to hit the gym. Luckily I have a great father who is the perfect workout buddy for me. Last night we went to the gym and I pushed myself to do 35 minutes of cardio (and let me tell you, after a one year hiatus from the gym it wasn't easy) but I felt great after. That is until I got into a minor car accident after the gym...not my fault though, I was parked and someone backed into me.

Tonight I went again even though I really didn't want to, but he called and so I joined him. Once I got on the machine my father came up to me and goes "You better lose that weight or you will lose your husband...maybe not today or in two years, but ten years from now...." Of course I didn't take him seriously, but it definitely gave me a good kick in the butt. I do want to look sexy for my husband, it's something my mother always told me is important. That taking care of oneself should be a priority and to not let myself go and become lazy. I came home and joked about it with my husband, but I think we both want to look our best for one another.
My body definitely feels a bit banged up after pregnancy. For example I have carpal tunnel on my right hand. My thumb hurts as if I had broken it and is always worse in the mornings. My left wrist hurts like it did in college when I had tendanitis. I got it from breastfeeding Max and holding his heavy body up, and last but not least my lower back really hurts after my workouts. I guess I'm getting older, but still, I'm only 30!
From now on I'm going to post every Thursday and post about my weight loss regiment. My goal is to get back to 115 lbs in three months. In order to do that I will be ordering Nutrisystem for when I go back to work along with the goals I achieved or didn't for the week. McFatty Thursdays here I come! I will be posting weekly pictures of my body until I get back to my skinny self. I am mortified to be doing this since I'm embarrassed about my body at the moment but I was pregnant and it is what it is. Don't mind the no make up or hair, but I'm being puked or peed on all day long so it is what it is at the moment. Let the diet begin- I want my old body back now!
Weight: 134 pounds

My Blog made into a Book

A long time ago I decided I wanted to capture my pregnancy in this blog so one day my children could read about it. As many of you know I lost my mother when I was 25 years old and therefore when I became pregnant I couldn't turn to her and ask her about her experiences. I have so many questions for her regarding her pregnancies and what she went through and I vowed to myself I would make a memento for our children so they would know how our story began. I found a great website that converts blogs to journals and so I ordered mine. I just got it in the mail and it turned out beautifully! I am now going to continue writing about our life and will always turn them into journals...it's a photo album and journal all in one. Here are some pictures of the book I made for our children. I really hope someday they will appreciate reading it, I know I do.

Pediatrician Visit

Our lil guy weighed in at 10.1 lbs yesterday and was right on target. We have switched him back to milk based formula and he seems to be taking it well which is great. He has been feeding every two hours during the day and seems to be really hungry. Things seems to be getting better which is great. We moved him into his nursery last night for the first time. Steve slept upstairs and I slept in the bedroom. He took over the night shift although I was up until 3am preparing formula since I was too paranoid to shut the monitor off. I was able to get some good sleep though which makes a world of difference. Last night while I was feeding him at 10pm in the nursery he made my heart melt. We were sitting on the little "Max" Chair and he kept looking up at the window and just smiling. It was sooo cute I wish I had it on video.

Steve and I ventured into Manhattan yesterday to get the dogs groomed and for my post op appointment. It was the first time I was out in public with Max on my own and it was a bit nerve racking. He was good in the doctors waiting room but once we got into the room he started cryinggggg because he was hungry. The appointment was rushed and I didn't get get to weigh myself :( I tried feeding him in the office, but the bottle was too cold so I carried him out while pushing the stroller. Worst part was my phone locked which it never had before and I couldn't figure out how to unlock it so I could call Steve and tell him to get us. I guess it takes time getting used to public meltdowns and leaving the house. It takes forever to pack things up for him and to get going. I guess that's how it's going to be for a few years, I better get used to it ;)
The doctor said everything had healed perfectly and that I could start working out and taking baths again. Wohoooooooo! Which of course I did last night and it felt greatttttt!I weighed myself at my parents house and weighed in at 132...hmmm I have 17 pounds to lose...I better get started. Treadmill here I come :)

I totally jinxed myself....

Yup, I totally jinxed myself. In my last post I wrote how the mylicon drops and formula were making a difference and he was less gassy. Well that night I ended up staying awake with him ALL night because his stomach was hurting him. He was grunting and moving and it was painful to watch him. Finally around 5am he fell asleep on my belly. So we called the doctor who instructed us to stop using formula and to exclusively breastfeed (which for the most part I was doing with the occasional formula feed). Because I'm worried about my supply she told me to buy fenugreek tea and to come in a week to weigh him so we can make sure he is gaining (we are going on Monday).
Ever since the night he didn't sleep his schedule has been totally thrown off. He wakes up every morning at 4am and sleeps most of the day. He has started to cluster feed again every two hours and has been very fussy these past two days because he is so tired. Today he was awake all afternoon despite our best efforts of trying to put him to sleep. Finally after bath time and letting him cry it out he passed out around 7pm. It's sooo sad seeing him cry these days because he now has real tears. I noticed them for the first time today and they were all over his face :( Luckily we have discovered that putting him in a car seat and driving him around will quiet him down and put him to sleep. We don't want to have to resort to doing that every night, but we will do it if we have what we like to call a code red on our hands (a child who does not calm down because he is overstimulated). Sadly that is what we had to do yesterday but it worked so that's all that matters! By the time he got to Grandpa's office he was on his best behavior and fast asleep. I guess he knows when to cry his head off and when to behave in public haha
He makes quite a few sounds now which is so cute. We are trying to get him used to the bjorn...to no avail yet though.

He is growing so fast and has already outgrown a few of his outfits. That will teach you not to buy anything too expensive for a newborn because they barely have time to wear it! Steve and I bought a Flipshare camera, it's awesome! I'm going to try to post two videos after I'm done. Tomorrow his grandparents are going to watch him for a bit while daddy and I go to a 30th birthday party. We are also hosting friends all day tomorrow so I'm going to try to get some rest before the next cluster feed or else I won't survive tomorrow...xoxo

Max in his chair...

Hmm...did they spell my name correctly?

Daddy trying to get some rest since waking up at 4am these days is killing him!

1 Month Post Pregnancy

My belly has been going down...but in the interest of fair disclosure...I have been eating chocolate and gummy bears by the pound. I also haven't really been watching how much mayo etc. has made it onto my plate haha What can I say...I had gestational diabetes for months so I might have overdone it a bit. With that being said, I think I look okay and now that the holidays are over, I'm ready to lose the weight.
I have FINALLY stopped bleeding. It took four weeks, but today is the first day I can stop wearing the uncomfortable pads. I stopped using the stool softeners two weeks early, but I found them to be rather useless anyways. My body is starting to feel like my old self again, so it took about a month. I don't know if I still have stitches down there, since they are on the inside and fall out on their own, the only way I'll know is when I go for my 6 week post check up. Only two more weeks to go until I can bathe, workout and have....well you know what. Can't wait! I'll be working out like a mad woman before I head to Miami...can't go showing up like this! I haven't weighed myself, but I will later on...last time I did I was 134lbs (at my high I was in the mid 150's). Goal by the time we go to Miami (mid February) will be to be below 120....we shall see!

Our Lil Guy is 1 Month Today...

Happy New Year everyone! Our guy is exactly one month old and we can tell that he is a bit older now. He makes a lot more sounds and doesn't cry as much. We attribute that to the mylicon drops the doctor put him on for his gas. We also changed formula and it seems to be working...knock on wood. We are on day four of the schedule and it gets better everyday. Yesterday he was up playing with us in the afternoon and went to bed at 6pm, it was great. Now if only we could get him to only wake up once during the night...hopefully we will get there soon.
Last night he took his first bath with dad, he lovessss bath time.

This is Max getting ready for bath time...

Max's first bath with dad in our big bath tub...he loved it!

Mommy dressing him after his bath:

Steve and I went into the city and had sushi with our good friends...it is so nice to get out of the house from time to time and have some adult time. We had a few drinks and lots of laughs. As you can tell we don't get out much!

Steve and I celebrated new years alone at home with Max...as the clock struck midnight we were feeding him and heading to bed. I guess we are old farts these days, we can barely make it past ten! Well my son is crying...i think i just jinxed myself...xoxo
