My son has found his thumb...

It is the cutest thing when he sticks his entire hand into his mouth and then realizes it's easiest to just suck on his thumb. It's hard to decipher if he is self soothing or extremely hungry because when he wants food he starts sucking on his hands like crazy. Max has been going through a crazy growth spurt and has been consuming food as if he were never going to get another bottle again. He went from eating approximately 18 ounces a day to eating more than 30. His schedule has been thrown off and we have been having to feed him almost every two hours. I think it's slowing down now, he will be 7 weeks tomorrow. He is coo-ing and making all sorts of funny noises. He also smiles and is sooo alert. He loves watching television to the point where grandma had to turn his bouncer around haha He can now follow you with his eyes and smiles so much more now. He even rolled over on his own the other day when I showed him how. It had to be while he was on a pillow, but he did it on his own and seemed to love it. The only thing he still doesn't enjoy is the bjorn, which I really wish he would. It would allow me to get more stuff done around the house and traveling a bit easier.
Sadly I got a letter in the mail from my office stating that my maternity leave is over February 22nd so that was a bummer since I thought I was going back March 1st. Holding that letter made me sad since I can't imagine not spending all day with Max. I'm going to miss him so much but I have no choice. Providing for my family is also a very important job and so at the moment that falls on me. I'm just going to have Steve tape him during the day and send me videos :)
In two weeks we are heading to Miami which we are super excited about. We have been going over what to bring since we know traveling will be difficult with a child. There is sooo much luggage, I'm just hoping he doesn't make a scene on the plane haha I always hated having to sit next to a crying baby, so maybe it's payback time now :(
Lastly, breastfeeding is slowly coming to an end. I haven't had him on the breast in two weeks now, instead I have been pumping around the clock. I chose to do it this way so I could see how much I was feeding him. It has helped with his crying spells since he was never getting enough before. However it has also decreased my supply a little, not too much though. We have been introducing more and more formula which he has been taking. We give him the Enfamil ready to use formula which is expensive but he likes it. We are going to start testing to see if he will take it in the powder form which is water based. I want to pump for as long as I can but will stop when I go back to work. It's been a difficult decision, but one I'm okay with.
On that note I'm going to get some rest xoxo

  1. aw, Aidan acts the same way with his hands. He tries to stick BOTH fists in his mouth at the same time, then just one, and then usually a finger or two. LOL. And then he repeats it. All. Day. Long. Doesn't matter if he's hungry oe not, although that increases it.

Sounds like Max will be out of his growth spurt soon. Aidan's lasted about a week but was over by around 7 weeks. :)
